What can i say? This is my Impulse Blog!
So i got Supreme Commander the other day. I've been impressed with it. The quality of the graphics is amazing, and i was glad to see the ingame movies in HD. Granted, it falls a little short of the revolution in RTS i had been hoping for, but all in all it seemed like a great game to play, and very entertaining. I played it for about a day with only some minor problems. Then GPG released a patch, heh, more like and un-patch.

Now i graced with only 10-15 min of gameplay before the game crashes back to the desktop. Or worse off, gives me a BSoD, or even worse, just hard reboots my machine. I get all kinds of BSoD errors, from drivers to kernel errors. And then of course there's the annoying "the game disconnects all my USB devices" thing ... Yea... Weird.

So after visiting the Gas Powered Games tech support forums, it seems A LOT of people are complaining of this post-patch. Thread after thread actually. GPG is telling everyone to reinstall and repatch, giving a list of things to do. Using driver cleaners and reinstalling drivers, etc... etc... But nothing seems to help. GPG seems to be aware of the problem tho, and says they are working toward a fix for the problems as soon as possible, so i suppose that is good. There's even an incompatibility issue with Stardock Windowblinds on Vista! Appearantly the game is scared of windowblinds and makes you turn it off before you can play the game on Vista (not my problem tho). Had you guys heard about that (Stardock Devs...)? (of course you have... duh).

So i was wondering, is anyone here having similar issues if you have Supreme Commander. Brad (in case you're reading) i know you had the Beta of SC, did you get the retail version? Having any issues like this?

It had ocurred to me, had this been GC2, Stardock would have had a patch out for this by now, with this many people complaining. It's been about 5 days since this issue came up. It's becoming annoying that every gaming company isn't Stardock .

So here i am... slightly peeved, waiting for a patch that would have already been out if it was for GC2. Posting on the GalCiv boards for a game that has nothing to do with Stardock... Heh...

That game looks great, but after a visit to the forums I decided to wait. Now I'm glad I did.

Good luck, I've been there.

Heh, my computer can't even run it.

From a pure gameplay standpoint is looks awesome though!

Well I did have that problem, but form me the cause is somewhat related to drivers. If I played Oblivion before a session of SC then it would crash. If I don't do that then I can play without issue. So something is up with the nvidia drivers and the way the game uses them.

after you uninstall:
basically you need to make sure the gaspowered games folder is deleted in the document and settings, applications. Also clear out your temp folder as there are a couple of things there too. after you do this and are running a 91 or 93 series nvidia driver then reinstall, patch, reboot, run game.

If you crash then clear the gaspowered games folder in documents setting, applications again (to clear the cache and preference files). Reboot. try to run the game again.

If that still doesn't work you may have an issue with sound which some people are having. Disable sound. If that still doesn't work then try running the game with its safemode executable.

If that still doesn't work then its probably securom7 messing you up and you might as well get a crack so you can play.

Also you will need to reboot if you ever crash to desktop.

Your machine rebooting automatically is because your machine is bluescreening and you need to turn off that "feature" in the advanced tab when you right click on my computer and select properties.

I would recommend looking at all the relevant threads on the Gaspowered games forum as alot of people have fixed their crashing issues in different ways.

I want Supreme Commander, to be sure, but I was planning to wait until I acquired a better computer even before this.

Now I don't feel so bad about it.

Well the game was officially released on the 20'th, with a patch on the 21st. A revision to this patch was posted on the 26th. 2 business days to get a patch to (theoretically) solve all the problems that were caused with the previous patch? Thats not all that bad.

To be honest, I have had issues with the game since day one, more than 5 or so invasions per game would cause a crash. Yes, I got in touch with tech support, yes I followed there instructions, yes I did a full format and reinstall of everything, no, I did not get my problem solved.

Programming a game is a lot of work. Getting it to work 100% on every possible computer system or configuration out there, impossible. I do not mean to sound like I am taking a stab at you, but you just happen to be one of the lucky ones that may have to put up with this kind of garbage for that game.

Just my $0.02

I've not had a problem with SuperCom, and my machine is pretty much at the low end of the spectrum with a Mobile Radeon 9700 128MB graphics card. Make sure your drivers are all up to date, and disable any virus-scanning tools you might have for an extra performance boost.

Of course I don't know how the game performs with the normal exe, I replaced mine immediately with a crack so that I don't have to have the CD constantly spinning in my laptop's drive. Might be worth seeing if there are updated Securom drivers somewhere...

If your graphics card is not direct X 9 compliant the game is going to crash whenever there is a DX9 call that the card doesn't support. Get a new graphics card. The specs are spelled out on the box man.

Radeon 9700 is not supported.

I don't mean to sound rude, but don't you think i tried all that? I've gone through every thread on the issue at the GPG forums, and most of the solutions they offered i tried before i made a post there. But i've tried everything anyone has offered there, like i said. And like 90% of the people with this problem, those solutions didn't work.

If any of that HAD worked i wouldn't have posted about being upset that nothing works to fix it. I went through the whole song and dance several times. There's nothing more i can do to try and get the game working, it's all on GPG. And as an aside, i really shouldn't have had to go through all the trouble i did to try and make the game work. Games aren't supposed to cause driver faults and crashes, and hard reboots.

ACTUALLY, you're wrong . The first patch was released on the 21st (3217). The revision to the patch (3217b) was ACTUALLY released on the 23rd, not the 26th. However the message about it on GPGNet was not posted until the 26th, but if you updated on or after the 23rd, you were still getting 3217b. So it was 5 days, not 2.

Not to condone cracking....but have you tried a cracked exe? It's amazing how securom can fubar things.

I'm sorry you are having such issues. I'd be pretty dissapointed if I were in your shoes. Hopefully gpg figures it out.

Please do not discuss or recommend the use of cracks here, regardless the reason or intent.

still no patch from them *sigh*....
on Mar 03, 2007
Oh, they released a new patch today... Did it fix anything? Nope... Game still crashes all over the place, every 10 min or so. I'm about done with SC at this rate.

Hey everyone,

WELL I went through all the trouble of signing up and everything (with the on screen keyboard no less - i spilt water on my real one) to share my sucsess (and hopefully help).

Ati released new drivers on Feb. 21. I went from crashing 10 min into S.C. everytime I played, to winning 2 hour long games.

I have the newest patch and the very newest drivrs. I hope you all can get the game up and running...

Specs..
AMD 3700+ socket 754
MSI K8N Neo platinum
1 gig Corsair
"ATI" X800XT AIW

Good Luck!
