OK, i took one more stab at a mechanized Iconia.

I like that one better than the first 'tubes' version. Up to you which you use (plain or this), I could go with either one.

Again no clouds so you can see the texture better. Kryo, everyone, opinions? This one or the first?

I like that one. Might make the 'shallows' a bit darker, at first glance it's not obvious which part is the water and which is the land!

Kryo, out of curiosity, is there any way currently to designate a planet in CustomPlanets.xml as one of non-standard types of colonizable worlds (I.E. Toxic, or Aquatic.)?

Yep. Use the <PlanetType> </PlanetType> tag with one of the following values:

HabitableByAll
HeavyGravity
Aquatic
Toxic
Barren
Radioactive

You mean lighter? Darker would make the ocean almost all black... I take it you mean make the shallow (less black) areas of the ocean brighter, so you can tell the color more?

I think i'll release the plain Iconia texture in the main pack, and the pipe version as an "add-on".

And thanks for the planettype tags!

It's not a matter of seeing the color, but being better able to distinguish the land from the sea. Right now the shallows are about the same color as the high-altitute land, so it can be a bit confusing. But my head-cold probably isn't helping me with that

These terraformed versions of Mars and Venus, will they show up when you terraform those planets in game?

OK, i took one more stab at a mechanized Iconia. I removied the clouds for a better view. Yea? Nea?

Currently No. Unless Kryo has something up his sleeve he'd like to divulge?? I.E. A way to make that happen, because i'd love for it to. But no, as of right now, if you want to switch them mid-game, you have to replace the texture in the game's gfx directory, and that will do squat to change the terrain color scheme (the map of the planet in the planetary view screen).

Kryo i might put in a request for modders, maybe just some quick tag to define a second/third image map and color scheme for planets after the terraform techs are researched.

No???

Nope.

I'm not the one to ask, but I'll relay that with my own requests to Cari for moddability enhancements

Gracias mi amigo

ALSO KRYO, can you confirm for me that the Class_14.png <-> Class_27.png images are no longer used?
on Jan 21, 2007
I don't know how it was done for the original game (only earth actually got a custom RAW map--everything else was random, so those didn't really need any special work). But when I did my 'Real Mars' map I did it the trial and error way and yeah it was a real pain. I've since found it a lot less painful to just use the curves tool in PSP to isolate certain grey levels to see where they cover. Every 25 or 26 units of brightness (0-255) corresponds to 0.1 (0.0-1.0) in the TerrainColorSchemes.

By curves tool in paint shop pro, i take it you mean the "magic wand" tool? Or another tool altogether?

on Jan 21, 2007
Ok, i tried using PSP to select the greyscale variants ahead of time to see where they would be. I decided to give Mars a go first. This was what i ended up with in the game. I don't know how i like it tho, what do you think Kryo, everyone?
