Introducing:

The High Resolution Graphics Mod by LogicSequence

Do you like eye candy? Do you wish Galactic Civilizations 2 had Higher Resolution textures? Do you wish the planets and solar systems looked more realistic? Do you think your PC can HANDLE IT?

Welcome players of Galactic Civilizations 2, to The High Resolution Graphics Mod by LogicSequence. I've been developing this mod for some weeks now, and the time is near for it's release.

In short, this mod will:
Replace the textures for all the races' homeworlds with new, original higher resolution versions.
Replace all Class 0 planet textures with new, original higher resolution versions.
Replace all ring and moon textures with new, original higher resolution versions.
Replace all cloud textures with new, original higher resolution versions.
Include authentic all-new Raw Terrain maps for all of the races' homeworlds.
Add more color variation to the background nebulae.

This mod isn't for the older PC. Some of the textures in this mod are 4096 x 2048 pixels, and many are 2048 x 1024, or 1024 x 512. If your PC meets the recommended system requirements for Galactic Civilzations 2: Dark Avatar, you should be able to run this mod without any problems.

It doesn't look like any of the files it uses have been changed in 1.6 so far.

Gentlemen:

I followed the installation and setup instructions for The High Resolution Graphics Mod (the new patch version) very carefully. When I finished getting it set up and restarted DA, I knew it was working because I could see the new logo in the bottom left-hand corner of the start screen. I followed all the recommendations for graphics settings from the installation program, like specular intensity, contrast, etc.

The mod seems to work great on any home planet I start with -- I can see the change in the planet graphics and the colony screen terrain -- but there's a problem: ALL the planets in my home system (and elsewhere, I assume) are still there, but they're... black. It's like they're planets that are made out of pure obsidian -- some still even have clouds swirling around their pitch-black surfaces.

I'm pretty sure this issue isn't occurring as a result of my system not being good enough to run the mod. I have a 256 MB ATI video card with up-to-date drivers (as of two weeks ago), 2 GB of RAM, and a 2.16 gHz processor -- also a 20" widescreen LCD monitor, and all running on a very clean install of Windows XP SP2. The unmodded game (DA 1.6) runs smooth as butter on my machine even with a Gigantic galaxy full of crap and all graphics setting pumped to the max.

Any ideas?

I was wondering... was this mod ever made on-line Metaverse Compatible?

I have been following this thread waiting for the answer to this myself. It would seem the topic has been swept under the carpet. Perhaps you should post your "lite" MV version of the mod yourself jp. I for one am keen to play with this in the MV. You could give all credit for the mod to logic in you mod description.

I understand if you don't want to do this, but after the time it has been since you mentioned it originally, i hardly think anyone would think you are stepping on Logic's toes at all.....

I have no basis for this idea but it won't hurt, perhaps deleting your prefs file located in My Games/GC2DarkAvatar might help. It has hindered other mods previously. Also though i doubt this, ensure to start a new game and not load a previous game. Also make sure there are no other mods conflicting with this one, cause it would not be your machine, i have very similar spec and it works like a treat on mine.

Sorry can't be of any help, perhaps others have seen similar problems?

You know I e-mailed the maker several times about this and never got a response (unless my spam filter deleted it). Well, maybe? Actually maybe he did respond. Honestly I just can't remember - and I still have ~900 e-mails to sort through just from when I was sick, let alone the 2,200 stored in my inbox.

Maybe I will do this. I have to update my own mods, and have to start on a few more. Since I have a fresh install of Dark Avatar I need to re-test everything I had before (and edit it) as well. I can do 2 versions. A lite version, and the full version - both Metaverse compatible.

The worst that can happen is to get scolded and ask to take it down.

He's been really busy for the past while, but I believe it's lessened now, so you may try getting ahold of him again.

on Nov 13, 2007
It's in the Library on this site WWW Link You have to scroll down a bit to it.

The link posted on this site is not working. I think they were trying to get it back up but I cant wait

Hmmm.. I'll ask Drengin what happened to it. It was being hosted by The Galactic Core, but they recently redid the mod site part of it and I don't see it there now.
